Mawlai beats Nongthymmai 2-1, stays at the top of SPL

Mawlai Sports Club extended their unbeaten streak in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2024, defeating Nongthymmai Sports Club 2-1 at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo, on Wednesday. Goals from Romarius Laban (31’) and Brolington Warlarpih (66’P) sealed the win for Mawlai, keeping them at the top of the standings with 22 points from eight matches. Nongthymmai, despite Rudolf Shadap’s equalizer in the 58th minute, remain in the relegation zone with 7 points.

Romarius, making his first start in this season’s league, impressed with a precise shot from the left flank to open the scoring. Nongthymmai’s goalkeeper Akash Thapa put up a valiant effort, making several key saves, but could not prevent the penalty conversion by Brolington following an infraction in the box. Rudolf’s strike offered a brief hope for Nongthymmai, but their defensive lapses allowed Mawlai to regain the lead.

Mawlai’s disciplined performance solidifies their dominance in the league, while Nongthymmai faces increasing pressure to escape the relegation zone. The next SPL match is set for Friday, featuring Langsning FC against Rangdajied United FC at 2:30 PM.
