Massive Power Outage, Injuries Reported After Strong Quake Jolts Japan

A massive earthquake with a magnitude 7.6 on Richter scale cut more than 33,500 households from electricity supply on Monday.

Most of the highways have been closed round the epicentre of a series of major earthquakes in central Japan, the road operator said.

Japan issued a major tsunami alerts for Ishiwaka and the rest of the western coast of Japan’s main island of Honshu, told people to evacuate coastal areas after back to back devastative quakes on its western coastline Monday.

Japanese public broadcaster NHK TV advised torrents of water may reach as high as 5 meters (16.5 feet) and alramed people to move to high land or the elevated area of a nearby building as quickly as possible.
