Kangpokpi Road Safety Committee Meets Under Addl DC

The District Administration of Kangpokpi, led by Additional Deputy Commissioner N Shokhongam Baite MCS, convened a Quarterly District-Level Compliance Review Meeting to discuss the implementation of directives from the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCoRS). The meeting took place in the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office and aimed to enhance road safety measures in the district. The ADM emphasized the importance of collaboration between stakeholders, including the State Police Department and Central forces, to bolster efforts in frisking and helmet checks along the National Highway.

Key actions were mandated for officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), NHIDCL, and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to identify unsafe and restoration-required bridges, as well as vulnerable stretches of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). These departments were tasked with submitting a comprehensive report to the Deputy Commissioner following IRC standards. Additionally, District Transport officials provided pertinent data related to road safety, and the ADM called upon the District Police for statistics regarding accidents and enforcement actions.

A point of clarification was raised concerning the jurisdiction over zebra crossings in town, which was confirmed to fall under the NHIDCL’s responsibilities, prompting the ADM to request action from the relevant officials. The meeting featured attendance from key personnel including Lamminlal Simte, MCS, AC to DC, and various SDOs and DLOs, reflecting a collaborative approach to addressing road safety in the district.
