The Government of Assam has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bandhan Bank to facilitate the collection of both tax and non-tax receipts through the Government Receipt Accounting System Portal (GRAS). Bandhan Bank, already deeply rooted in all 35 districts of Assam, is set to integrate with the state government to streamline the payment collection process.
The partnership allows citizens to conveniently pay for various services, including house tax, vehicle registration tax, local body tax, water bills, examination fees, and trade license renewals, among others, through the Assam e-GRAS portal. With nearly 500 banking outlets across the state, Bandhan Bank aims to make transactions more accessible, paperless, and efficient for the people of Assam.Debraj Saha, Head of Government Business at Bandhan Bank, expressed, “Assam is one of the top 5 markets for Bandhan Bank. Securing a mandate from the Government of Assam is a testament to the confidence shown by various state governments and regulators in the bank.”
The Assam e-GRAS portal, a secure web application, operates 24/7, allowing citizens to generate e-challans for services and make online payments anytime, anywhere. For the fiscal year 2022-23, the portal saw a total collection of nearly INR 16,000 Crore.Bandhan Bank, originally established in 2001 as a not-for-profit entity focusing on financial inclusion and women empowerment, has evolved into a universal bank with a wide presence across India.
