In a landmark initiative aimed at fostering entrepreneurship and skill development in the northeastern region, Hon’ble Minister Jayant Chaudhary unveiled 30 Entrepreneurship Development Centres (EDCs) during the Northeast Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Conclave 2024 held at IIM Shillong. The event brought together key stakeholders, including state leaders, industry experts, and academicians, to discuss collaborative strategies under the theme “Act First for Northeast.”
Minister Chaudhary emphasized the need for a robust skill development framework tailored to the region’s unique cultural landscape, stating, “With improved connectivity and a rising pool of educated youth, all eight states are experiencing double-digit growth.” The conclave focused on enhancing local craftsmanship, including wood carving and bamboo craftsmanship, aligning traditional skills with market demands.
The initiative aims to empower youth by establishing four Incubation Centers (ICs) and implementing various programs to inspire innovation. Additionally, the Skill India Mission has made significant strides in the Northeast, training over 13.40 lakh candidates since 2015 and allocating ₹857.84 crore to support skill development.
