Zubeen Garg Case Row: Gaurav Gogoi Targets Assam CM Over ‘Character Assassination’ Claim

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi criticized Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for allegedly using the chargesheet related to the death of singer Zubeen Garg to tarnish his reputation instead of seeking justice. Gogoi emphasized the importance of protecting Garg’s legacy, referring to him as “Assam’s Kanchanjunga,” and claimed that authorities might resort to coercive tactics against Garg’s family to execute this agenda. This assertion arose amid a dispute involving Independent MLA Akhil Gogoi, who reportedly circulated unverified documents linked to the chargesheet, prompting a complaint from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to the Crime Branch. The SIT is investigating seven individuals, including Garg’s secretary and festival organizers, with charges including murder and criminal conspiracy. Zubeen Garg’s death, which remains shrouded in mystery, occurred on September 19 while he was swimming. Currently, all accused are under judicial custody, with varying charges and locations of detention detailed, signifying the case’s complexity and the serious nature of the allegations made against those involved.
