Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang has outlined a comprehensive roadmap for Nagaland’s economic development by 2047, emphasizing inclusive growth, cultural preservation, and sustainable development as foundational pillars. Speaking at the NEC Vision Plan 2047 consultation in Kohima, organized by the North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi) and the Ministry of DoNER, Zeliang discussed the state’s priorities and the path toward “Viksit Bharat” (developed India).
Highlighting agriculture as a cornerstone of Nagaland’s economy, Zeliang stressed modernizing farming practices, integrating advanced technology, and expanding infrastructure to boost food security and exports. He advocated for sustainable practices, including organic farming and advanced irrigation systems, while underscoring the need for cold storage and warehousing at bus depots and transport terminals with NEC’s support. Addressing infrastructure needs, he called for robust investments in road, rail, air, and water connectivity to bridge rural-urban gaps. Zeliang also promoted Nagaland’s cultural richness as a resource for economic development, suggesting increased investments in tourism and the creation of state-of-the-art cultural spaces.
The Deputy CM emphasized healthcare upgrades, including multi-specialty hospitals and climate-resilient facilities, alongside improved infrastructure in higher education institutions. Noting the challenges posed by delayed funding cycles, he urged NEC to streamline fund disbursements to optimize Nagaland’s short working season, ensuring timely project implementation and a resilient future for the state.
