ZEE5, India’s leading home-grown streaming platform, is strengthening its regional content portfolio with the launch of Bibhishon, a Bengali psychological thriller set to premiere on June 27. Produced and directed by Raja Chanda, the series stars Soham Majumdar and Debchandrima Singha Roy. Set in Birbhum, Bibhishon presents a gripping narrative involving mysterious crimes, including a headless body and a brutal murder, putting local law enforcement in a spiral of suspense.
ZEE5 continues its strategy of regional expansion, leveraging vernacular storytelling to capture Tier I and Tier II markets. The platform’s spokesperson highlighted that Bibhishon reinforces their commitment to original content across Indian languages, with high production value and emotionally driven plots.
Kolkata, a stronghold for Bengali OTT content, is expected to drive early viewership. Previous Bengali originals from ZEE5 have performed well in the city, benefiting from a mature audience base that prefers culturally rooted thrillers. Analysts expect Bibhishon to see high completion rates and strong word-of-mouth, given its genre appeal and familiar cast.
With rising consumption of regional content and growing broadband access, ZEE5’s focused investments like Bibhishon are set to boost subscriber engagement and retention in the competitive OTT landscape.
