The North-Eastern fashion industry is gaining momentum, with brands like STYLEYA leading the way in integrating traditional textiles with modern design. Founder Zarina Laskar has been recognized with the “Excellence in Fashion Entrepreneurship” award at the FEMINA ACHIEVERS’ AWARDS 2025 NORTHEAST, held on March 2 at TajVivanta, Guwahati. This accolade highlights her contribution to the regional economy through job creation and artisan empowerment. Since its launch in 2017, STYLEYA has strengthened the handloom and textile sector by working with local weavers and artisans to craft high-value fashion pieces. The brand’s diverse portfolio—Kaftans, Burkhas, Designer Kurtis, Lehengas, and a new men’s collection—has positioned it as a significant player in India’s evolving fashion landscape. With features at East India Fashion Week, STYLEYA is enhancing the commercial viability of indigenous textiles.
“Our journey started with a dream to create distinct designer clothing using indigenous fabrics, and today, our work is appreciated on larger platforms. This award is a testament to the hard work and passion we put into STYLEYA,” said Zarina Laskar upon receiving the award. “Our mission goes beyond fashion – we aim to empower local artisans, particularly the talented women weavers of Assam, by bringing their craftsmanship to a global audience. It fills me with immense pride to see our work transcend boundaries and be recognized at such a prestigious platform.”
In Guwahati, the demand for handcrafted and sustainable fashion is growing, reflecting broader consumer trends favoring ethical and culturally rooted designs. This shift is creating opportunities for indigenous brands to scale up, leveraging both offline and digital retail channels. With additional recognition as Designer of the Year at India Style Fashion Week in Delhi, Laskar’s success underscores North-East India’s growing influence in the national fashion economy, paving the way for global expansion.
