The State Disaster Management Authority, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, conducted the Yuva Aapda Mitra Volunteers Training Programme for students at Ri Bhoi College in Nongpoh, Meghalaya, on Thursday. This training spans seven days and represents the third phase of the initiative in Ri Bhoi district. The programme aims to equip volunteers with vital skills and knowledge necessary to assist the public during natural calamities, including earthquakes, house collapses, floods, and other disasters.
The inaugural session was attended by notable officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, Akash R. Marak; Assistant Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, Nongpoh, Bah T. Iongwai; and Bah J. Mawthoh, the District Disaster Management Officer and Nodal Officer for YAMs. During his address, Assistant Commissioner Marak praised the enthusiastic participation of the students and urged them to remain vigilant and committed to protecting lives during emergencies in their communities. He also encouraged them to share the knowledge and skills acquired through the training with others, thereby fostering a culture of preparedness and resilience in society.
