Youth’s Forum for Protection of Human Rights (YFPHR) has raised grave concerns over the state’s failure to hold accountable armed groups terrorizing innocent citizens in Manipur. A recent press release highlighted the shocking violence in Litan, Ukhrul district, which displaced thousands and destroyed homes, occurring in the presence of Central and State Armed Forces. YFPHR condemned this as a significant human rights violation and criticized the government’s inaction in preventing such violence, which has persisted since the 1990s without thorough investigations into the failures of state mechanisms designed to protect citizens. The organization suspects that the involvement of security forces may exacerbate conflicts, questioning their role in the escalating violence. YFPHR called on the Indian government to cease militarization efforts and prioritize the protection of its citizens.
