YCM Seeks Release of Youth Congress Leader Held by Police

On Thursday, the Youth Congress Manipur demanded the immediate release of Uday Bhanu Chib, the Indian National Youth Congress president, who was arrested for participating in a “shirtless protest” during a global AI summit in New Delhi. Following the protest on February 20, a total of 11 individuals, including Chib, have been detained. Youth Congress Manipur spokesperson Ningthoujam Popilal criticized the BJP-led government for the “unreasonable” detention and the wrongful registration of cases against the protestors. He emphasized that the Congress party is not responsible for embarrassing the nation, contrary to claims made by the BJP Mahilla Morcha president, and accused the BJP of undermining national interests. Popilal recalled past BJP protests during international events and reiterated the demand for Chib’s immediate release, highlighting that both Chib and former IYC national spokesperson Bhudev Sharma were remanded to police custody following their arrests.
