The Yimkhiung Akheru Arihako (YAA) and Tikhir Students’ Union (TSU), representing the Yimkhiung and Tikhir tribes, have given the Nagaland government a five-day ultimatum to implement the 25% reservation policy for seven tribes in six districts of Eastern Nagaland. In a letter to the Chief Secretary, the student bodies expressed frustration over the government’s failure to act on the Personnel & Administrative Reforms (P&AR) notification of March 23, 2022, and a Guwahati High Court ruling from September 29, 2023, directing its implementation.
The unions criticized the state’s inaction, stating it infringes on the constitutional rights of affected aspirants and citizens. They demanded immediate compliance, warning that failure to meet the November 30 deadline would result in indefinite democratic agitation. The YAA and TSU have also resolved to boycott all state-organized events and held the government accountable for any consequences arising from their protests.
The ultimatum reflects growing dissatisfaction among Eastern Nagaland tribes over delayed representation and opportunities. The organizations stressed their commitment to safeguarding tribal rights and ensuring government adherence to legal obligations. This development underscores the pressing need for equitable governance and timely policy implementation to address long-standing grievances in the region.
