Women’s Participation Key to Nation Building: Lakshman Prasad Acharya

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Monday emphasized the importance of women’s participation in nation-building, stating that empowering women is essential for national progress. Attending the Women Achievers’ Award 2026 ceremony, organized by the FICCI Ladies Organisation (FICCI FLO), Northeast Chapter, in Guwahati, Acharya said that both the central government and the state government have undertaken several initiatives to strengthen women’s empowerment through various welfare and development schemes. The Governor said that following the celebration of International Women’s Day, the award ceremony was a meaningful continuation of recognizing the strength and contributions of women in society.

Five outstanding women achievers from different fields across Northeast were honored during the awards ceremony. They include Dhananda Pathak of Assam, an exponent of Kamrupi Lok Geet, Kmoin Wahlang of Meghalaya, a marathon runner; Zomawii Khiangte of Mizoram, a social entrepreneur; Ratna Dey of Tripura, an entrepreneur and exporter; and K. Chokhone of Manipur, founder and CEO of Dianthe Private Limited.

The Governor congratulated the awardees and lauded their dedication, perseverance and achievements, which have made them role models in their respective fields. “Assam and other states of the Northeast have a rich tradition of honouring women’s courage and contributions,” Acharya said, while recalling legendary figures such as Sati Joymoti and Kanaklata Barua as symbols of bravery and sacrifice.
