The Women’s Kabaddi League (WKL), the first Kabaddi competition in India, will take place in Dubai. There will be an enormous opening ceremony on June 16 and 31 matches over 12 days. 120 women Kabaddi players from across India will compete in the league, held at the ‘Shabab Al-Ahli’ sports club. WKL aims to empower women from small towns and rural areas by providing special attention to their sports talent and helping them reach international platforms.
Women’s Kabaddi League is a revolutionary step to encourage women to play Kabaddi and provide a world-class platform for them to prove their talent. Kabaddi has become a popular sport in India, with a single player being auctioned at 33 lakh rupees, the highest ever. Eight teams, namely Rajasthan Raider, Delhi Dynamites, Gujarat Angels, Great Maratha, Haryana Hustlers, Punjab Panthers, Uma Kolkata, and Bengaluru Hawks, will compete in the WKL 31 matches.
Director and CEO Pradeep Kumar Nehra said, “We are very excited about this event. It is not just a Kabaddi league, but a platform for women empowerment which will provide female players an opportunity to win fame at an international stage.”
