Widespread Celebrations Held Across Districts on International Women’s Day

The District Administration of Pherzawl, in coordination with the District Social Welfare Office and the District Programme Officer (ICDS), celebrated International Women’s Day 2026 at the Deputy Commissioner’s Complex, under the theme “Give to Gain.” The program focused on empowering women through education, equality, and social justice, and was conducted under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, drawing participation from officials, women leaders, students, and community members. A standout feature was an extempore speech competition for girl students, organized with support from various women’s groups, resulting in winners receiving cash prizes and certificates, alongside gifts distributed to all women and girls present.

Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching IAS emphasized the essential role of women in society, reflecting on the pivotal 1908 New York march where women protested for better working conditions and voting rights, which catalyzed the global recognition of International Women’s Day. The event closed with a renewed commitment from district administration and participants to further promote women’s empowerment and gender equality in Pherzawl.

In Senapati District, International Women’s Day was celebrated at Astro Turf Ground, organized by Mera Yuva Bharat (MYB) in collaboration with the District Youth Affairs and Sports Office, Khelo India Centre, Senapati District Indigenous Wrestling Academy, and the Badminton Association. Deputy Commissioner Mamoni Doley, IAS highlighted that the spirit of mutual support should be consistent, encouraging young girls to pursue excellence without self-doubt. The Deputy Commissioner formally opened a sports meet during the program, which concluded with prizes awarded to winners and runners-up.

In Thoubal district, various events commemorated International Women’s Day, including a blood donation camp organized by the Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation (IRDSO) in partnership with the Indian Red Cross Society and the Women’s In Governance (WiNG) Thoubal chapter. Chief Functionary Nonibala Narengbam stated that the camp’s motto was “Red is Life, Give to Gain,” and successfully attracted 15 donors, comprising 8 men and 7 women.

Additionally, the District Legal Services Authority organized a Free Mega Health Camp at Ayushman Arogya Mandir as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations, offering services from various specialists, including ENT, Medicine, Gynecology, and Dermatology, reinforcing the theme “Give to Gain.”
