The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills, Vibhor Aggarwal, has enacted a prohibition on all unauthorized brick kilns in the district, effective immediately, as mandated under Section 163 BNSS, 2023. This decision follows directives from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) which require the closure of brick kilns lacking environmental clearance. The magistrate highlighted that the district administration had received reports indicating the presence of several unauthorized kilns, which are significantly threatening air quality and endangering the health of both workers and the local populace. The prohibitory order is consequently aimed at mitigating the environmental and health risks associated with these operations.
