PepsiCo India has awarded West Bengal’s Biswajit Sarkar and Aamon Mahila Chasi Producer Company Limited for their contributions to sustainable agriculture, strengthening value chains, and promoting digital farming practices. Aamon Mahila Chasi Producer Company Limited, an all-women Farmer Producer Company, operates four processing units and markets multiple products in Kolkata through its Jaibo Haat outlet. With 3,000 members, the company has helped build stronger leadership opportunities for women and expanded organic certification in the region.
Biswajit Sarkar, who uses real-time weather data and scientific planning in potato and paddy cultivation, has become a strong example of youth-led farming innovation. Several farmers in his community have adopted similar practices based on his demonstrations.
The conference also highlighted a national focus on partnerships for climate-resilient agriculture, an area where Kolkata continues to play a growing role due to rising consumer interest in locally sourced products and sustainable food systems.
As demand for healthier products grows in Kolkata supermarkets and local markets, companies like Aamon are expected to expand their footprint in the coming years, connecting rural women entrepreneurs with consumers across eastern India.
