Nagaland Police has issued a public advisory warning against fraudulent second-hand car syndicates operating in neighboring states, particularly targeting buyers in the border districts. The syndicates reportedly employ deceptive tactics, including fitting vehicles with GPS trackers and providing falsified documents such as fake Registration Certificates (RCs) and insurance papers. In some cases, vehicles are sold with only a single ignition key, enabling the syndicate to reclaim the car after filing false theft reports.
The police have urged the public to verify all vehicle-related documents with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and insist on identity proof from sellers, such as Aadhaar or PAN cards. They also recommend purchasing vehicles only from authorized dealerships or verified individuals.
To safeguard transactions, buyers are advised to:
Insist on a Sale Deed signed in the presence of witnesses.
Make payments digitally to maintain traceable records.
Obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the RTO and police station.
