The district-level Vikshit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 for Chandel district took place at the Seminar Hall of South East Manipur College, Komlathabi. The event was held under the theme ’50 Years of Emergency: Lessons for Indian Democracy.’ Organized jointly by the National Service Scheme, SEMCO, and Mera Yuva Bharat Chandel, the youth parliament witnessed dynamic participation from various institutions, with young individuals aged 18-25 from across the district taking part.The event was graced by the Sub Divisional Officer of Chandel, Reikimdaar Khaling, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Miranda Bembem Mutuwa, Coordinator, IQAC, SEMCO, delivered the keynote address, highlighting the Youth Parliament as a platform for young voices to engage in national discussions and shape the vision of the nation and the world. She noted that the event is an academic exercise in democratic engagement and emphasized how youth voices have made an immense shift in the way politics has changed.”As India’s democracy evolves with about 371 million young people aged 18-29 and about 65% of the population under 35, youth participation in politics or nation-building is not only inevitable but also indispensable,” she said, encouraging participants to articulate their ideas and desires to build a better nation. She also informed that the top five winners would represent Chandel at the state-level competition.Speaking as the chief guest, SDO Chandel reflected on the 21-month-long national emergency during 1975 and its impact on democracy. “Democracy is about living in an ecosystem between citizens, judiciary, executive, and legislature. Healthy democracy isn’t just about periodic elections but active participation for citizens’ awareness and welfare,” she said, adding that rights are inherent and it’s a collective responsibility to protect them.The jury selected the top five winners: Roshni Nula (United College) as first, Lh Penahring (United College) as second, SK Jilihring (SEMCO) as third, Tongsin Phowlnihring (SEMCO) as fourth, and HL Amit Anal (United College) as fifth. These winners will represent Chandel at the state-level competition.
