Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) plans a mass public rally in Kohima on March 16 to protest the mandatory singing of Vande Mataram, as mandated by a Ministry of Home Affairs directive from January 28, 2026. NSF leaders highlighted the directive’s adverse effects on Naga rights and identity. The rally aims to unify the Naga population against this compulsory imposition, with subordinate bodies instructed to hold peaceful demonstrations in educational institutions. The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has voiced similar concerns, emphasizing the need for respect towards Naga cultural and religious contexts, and has directed educational institutions in Mokokchung district to refrain from enforcing the singing of Vande Mataram.
