Usha, India’s leading consumer durables brand, has collaborated with the People’s Development Society and MATAM to organise the Thang-Ta Gi Laallong Yendamnaba Competition 2024 at the Nandeiban Lelkai Community Hall in Imphal East, Manipur. The top performers were felicitated by the Chief Guest Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba, and awarded certificates and prizes. With this association, Usha continues to strengthen its commitment to nurturing local communities and sports at the grassroots level, while promoting a healthy and active lifestyle.
Thang-Ta is an ancient Indian martial art form from Manipur that combines combat training with cultural and ritualistic elements. With its roots in martial arts Thang-Ta inculcates in children, skills that cannot be learnt in classrooms which stand them in good stead through their lives.
The competition saw participation of over 150 martial art enthusiasts across age groups, including the Sub-Junior, Junior, and Open categories, and was supported by 50 officials, volunteers, and Usha Silai School teachers. “Thang-Ta is significant in Manipur’s cultural and martial heritage, and we are happy to support and enhance its presence among the local population”, remarked Komal Mehra, Head of Sports Initiatives and Associations at Usha International.
