Ukhrul to Mark Naga Seed Sowing Festival Lui-Ngai-Ni with Traditional Fervor

The Lui-Ngai-Ni seed sowing festival will take place on February 14 and 15 at the Ukhrul district headquarters in Manipur, organized by the United Naga Council (UNC) and hosted by the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL). This annual event signifies the start of the agricultural season, bringing Naga communities together to seek blessings for a fruitful harvest and the well-being of their people. The festivities will include traditional rituals, cultural dances, folk songs, and a variety of entertainment. This year’s theme, “Cultural Renaissance,” emphasizes the revival of Naga cultural heritage in a modern context. Notable attendees include Losii Dikho, MLA from Mao; Dinganlung Gangmei, HAC Chairman; among others. A programme note highlighted that culture is fundamental to the identity and worldview of the Naga community, which includes approximately 66–67 ethnic tribes, with 20 found in Manipur. The theme reflects an effort to reclaim and celebrate Naga history and cultural values while adapting to contemporary challenges, aiming to sustain both the abstract and practical aspects of Naga culture.
