Manipur Police have dealt a significant blow to criminal networks in the state, rescuing two kidnapped civilians and seizing a cache of illegal drugs and weapons. The operations, carried out over two days, led to multiple arrests and the recovery of arms, narcotics, and explosive devices. On February 5, Manipur Police rescued two abducted laborers from Assam—Rintu Mina (37) and Montu Sheikh (20)—who had been kidnapped near the Public Hospital in Hatta. The swift action by law enforcement led to the arrest of the alleged kidnapper, Md. Anwar Hussain (41), who was apprehended in the Kairang-Heingang Khong area. The victims were safely recovered, and an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the abduction.
The following day, security forces conducted two successful anti-narcotics operations. In the border town of Moreh, officials apprehended Zamkholun Baite (40) at Moreh Gate No. 1, seizing approximately 1.5 kg of WIY tablets, commonly known as “World is Yours,” a powerful synthetic drug. Meanwhile, in Bishnupur district, police arrested Md. Tajuddin (29), who was found in possession of 1,041 grams of suspected brown sugar. Both individuals were caught with their vehicles and mobile phones, which are being examined for potential links to larger drug networks.
In a parallel operation, security personnel conducted a search of the Wangoo Mameiching and Nongyai Hill range, uncovering a significant cache of weapons and explosives. The recovered arsenal included:
One Single Barrel Gun
One Self-Loading Rifle (SLR)
Two high-explosive grenades
Tear gas munitions
Two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), each weighing approximately 600 grams
