Manipur Police arrested two suspected members of the Volunteers Welfare Fund (VWF) organisation in Imphal West district. The arrests were made during an anti-extortion operation conducted in response to local complaints.
The suspects, Yumlembam Khelen Singh (40) and Huidrom Langambam Singh (30), were caught in the Sagolband Tera area while allegedly attempting to extort money from residents. During the operation, police recovered a demand note, two mobile phones, and a lock and key, suspected to be linked to their extortion network. Authorities believe the duo were active in targeting individuals and businesses across Imphal.
In a parallel security operation in Kakching district, police and security forces unearthed a large cache of weapons and explosives near Chairel Khunou Hill. The seized arsenal included:
An assault rifle
A 5 kg improvised explosive device (IED)
Multiple grenades
A 9mm pistol with an empty magazine
Tactical gear, including a bulletproof vest and helmet
Smoke shells and tear gas grenades
The weapons were discovered near Wangoo Police Station, raising concerns about possible insurgent activities in the region.
