Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma announced that over Rs 700 crore is being invested in various development projects for Tura town. This statement was made during the inauguration of the Nehru Ading Locality Beautification Project, organized by the Nehru Ading Development and Welfare Committee (NADWC) in Tura, West Garo Hills. The Chief Minister elaborated on several initiatives under the Smart City Mission, including a Rs 60 crore allocation for paving internal roads and Rs 15 crore each for street lighting and further beautifying Tura Bazar.
Sangma also discussed the ongoing City Beautification Drive, which involves the installation of CCTV cameras and streetlights across the town, with plans to deploy around 350 CCTV cameras and 500 streetlights to enhance public safety and infrastructure. Specifically, Nehru Ading locality will receive four CCTV cameras and six streetlights. The beautification project aims to improve the community’s environment and gather support from community leaders and residents.
During the event, the Chief Minister unveiled a commemorative plaque for the project and emphasized the necessity for community involvement in maintaining cleanliness and civic discipline. In a community interaction segment, various issues and suggestions were brought up by residents, including the demand for a community hall and additional resources for the locality’s beautification efforts.
