The Tripura government began acquiring 21,315 metric tons of paddy at 51 places at the minimum support price. Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratanlal Nath presided over the major ceremony, which took place at the Madhab Bari food warehouse in Jirania under the West District. Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nath stated that the federal government and state governments are trying to improve the lives of farmers, who supply the food.
The Minister emphasized that the state government began buying paddy from farmers in 2018–19 at a price of ₹17.50 per kilogram. Paddy will be bought for ₹23 per kg during the current Rabi season, and this figure has been rising annually. Paddy was bought for ₹21.83 per kilogram during the previous season. The state’s goal for this year is to buy 21,315 metric tons of paddy at the support price of ₹23 per kilogram. Speaking at the event, the Agriculture Minister also underlined how crucial scientific farming is to increasing the state’s agricultural output.
The government wants to treble farmers’ income, he said. This goal has led to the establishment of farmer knowledge centers, cold storage facilities, and agricultural warehouses around the state. At the event, Sushanta Chowdhury, Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, also gave a speech. He said that although farmers recently suffered large losses as a result of floods, the Agriculture Department supported them.
