Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Government of Maharashtra to explore the establishment of a Green Field Manufacturing Facility at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. This proposed investment highlights TKM’s ongoing commitment to India’s automotive industry, following its recent significant investments in Karnataka.
The MOU was exchanged between Dr. Harshadeep Kamble, Principal Secretary (Industries), Government of Maharashtra, and Mr. Sudeep Santram Dalvi, Director & Chief Communications Officer of TKM, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, and key TKM executives including MD and CEO Masakazu Yoshimura and Vice Chairperson Manasi Tata.
TKM, headquartered in Karnataka, currently operates two state-of-the-art manufacturing units in Bidadi with a combined annual capacity of 3.42 lakh vehicles. The new facility in Maharashtra is expected to further bolster TKM’s production capabilities and support India’s push for cleaner, greener mobility solutions.The Shillong market, known for its vibrant automotive scene, is likely to see a positive impact from this expansion. Increased availability of Toyota’s advanced green technologies and quality products could drive market growth and consumer demand in the region. Additionally, TKM’s emphasis on localization and skill enhancement aligns with the aspirations of local entrepreneurs and workforce development in Meghalaya.Commenting on the MOU, TKM’s MD and CEO, Masakazu Yoshimura, stated, “This agreement marks a pivotal step in Toyota’s journey to contribute to India’s manufacturing and environmental goals.
