Toyota Kirloskar Motor showcases green mobility at India Energy Week 2025

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reaffirmed its commitment to India’s energy independence and net-zero goals at the India Energy Week (IEW) 2025, held in Delhi from February 11-14. The event serves as a crucial platform for showcasing clean energy solutions and fostering discussions on sustainable mobility. TKM highlighted its multi-pathway approach to green mobility by displaying various alternative powertrain technologies. The exhibits included the Innova Hycross Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicle (SHEV), the Prius Flex-Fuel Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (FFV-PHEV) capable of running on 100% ethanol, an Urban Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) concept, the hydrogen-powered Mirai Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV), and a locally manufactured e-Drive system for electrified vehicles.

Mr. Vikram Gulati, Country Head & Executive Vice President – Corporate Affairs and Governance, TKM, stated, “A multi-pathway approach is essential for accelerating the energy transition and reducing carbon emissions in the mobility sector. Toyota remains committed to fostering clean energy integration across the value chain to support India’s self-reliance in sustainable technologies.” Toyota’s focus on ethanol as a viable alternative fuel was a key highlight. The company emphasized the potential of ethanol in reducing fossil fuel dependency, lowering carbon emissions, and boosting rural incomes by creating new jobs and revenue streams. The government’s push for second-generation ethanol production from agricultural residues like stubble burning is expected to provide environmental and economic benefits.

Beyond vehicle technology, TKM has made significant strides in renewable energy adoption and sustainable manufacturing. The company achieved 100% renewable energy usage in its manufacturing operations by 2021-22, reducing over 447,253 tons of CO2 emissions. Additionally, Toyota has optimized logistics by shifting 65% of its vehicle transport from Bidadi to northern India via rail, cutting emissions by 7.7 kg CO2 per vehicle in FY 2023-24. The company also meets 89.3% of its water requirements through rainwater harvesting and recycling initiatives. Toyota continues to strengthen India’s role in the global automotive supply chain by localizing electric vehicle components, training over 139 supplier companies on carbon neutrality, and upskilling 180,000 youth in the automobile sector. The company reiterated that government support through enabling policies would be crucial in accelerating the transition towards clean energy-driven vehicle technologies.
