Marking World Forest Day and World Water Day, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reiterated its commitment to environmental sustainability, aligning with the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050 (TEC 2050). The initiative aims to minimize environmental impact while fostering a net positive effect on ecosystems through afforestation, water conservation, and sustainable resource management. At its Karnataka facility, TKM follows a robust ‘4R’ water strategy—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recharge—achieving 89.3% of its total production water needs through recycled water and rainwater harvesting. The company has also developed rainwater storage ponds with a 51,000-cubic-meter capacity and 18 groundwater recharge pits, progressively moving toward a Zero Liquid Discharge plant. Additionally, afforestation efforts under the Toyota Greenwave Project have led to the plantation of over 328,000 saplings, enhancing carbon sequestration.
Sharing his thoughts, Mr. B. Padmanabha, Executive Vice President & Director – Manufacturing at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said,“For us, sustainability is deeply woven into every aspect of our business. Over these 26 remarkable years of our successful operations in India, our journey has always been driven by a commitment to creating lasting value through innovation, corporate responsibility, and meaningful relationships with the communities. Guided by TEC 2050, we integrate pioneering sustainability practices not only in our plant operations but across the entire value chain, driving real change in the society. Our vision is clear—to create a future where sustainability and well-being thrive together, enriching lives, while protecting our planet. We take pride in the impact we have made and remain committed to driving lasting, sustainable change. Our work continues, building a brighter, happier future for all.”
Additionally, TKM’s community outreach includes the conservation of Abbanakuppe Lake, benefiting 8,000 residents and significantly improving water quality and biodiversity. Through its 25-acre Ecozone initiative, the company has educated over 40,000 school children, fostering eco-awareness among future generations.
