Tinder, Centre for Social Research Unveil Dating Safety Guide in Indian Languages

Ahead of Safer Internet Day, Tinder, in collaboration with the Centre for Social Research (CSR), has launched its industry-leading Dating Safety Guide in four Indian languages—Hindi, Marathi, Kannada, and Bengali. The initiative aims to make online dating safer and more accessible by reaching a broader audience in their native languages. The guide, initially introduced in English in 2023, provides essential tips and tools for young adults to navigate online dating safely and confidently. Tinder has partnered closely with CSR, a leading non-profit working towards gender equality and safer digital spaces, to develop this resource. The guide addresses key concerns identified in a Tinder survey, where Indian singles ranked “safety and security” as their top priority before meeting a match in person, with 37% stating they would prefer a video call before a real-life date.

To ensure wider outreach, Tinder will promote the guide through an in-app safety campaign throughout February 2025. The initiative highlights crucial aspects of safe dating, including recognizing red and green flags, understanding consent, utilizing safety features like Photo Verification and Block Contacts, and reporting inappropriate behavior directly through the app. The introduction of the Dating Safety Guide in Bengali is expected to have a significant impact in Kolkata, where the online dating scene is expanding rapidly. With a growing youth population embracing digital interactions, local users will benefit from resources tailored to their linguistic and cultural context. Experts suggest that the availability of safety tools and educational materials in Bengali will help foster a more informed and secure dating environment in the city, where concerns around online safety remain prevalent.

Yoel Roth, Vice President of Trust & Safety at Match Group, emphasized Tinder’s commitment to enhancing user safety, stating, “By launching this guide in multiple languages, we are empowering young daters in India with essential tools and reinforcing our dedication to stronger safety standards across our platforms.”
