The Tripura CM said a new act was passed to prevent the misuse of Waqf

The Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025, which was enacted by the Parliament, aims to address claims of corruption, including land grabbing, Section 40 abuse, and misuse of Waqf holdings by some leaders, according to Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha. Speaking at the ruling BJP’s Janajagaran Abhiyan here, the chief minister claimed that the Waqf Act of 1995’s flaws had a significant negative impact on the impoverished Muslims in the backward communities.

The Janajagaran Abhiyan was started as part of the nationwide push to educate the Muslim community about the modified law. “When the bill arrived, we studied it and understood it, even though many people are unaware of the Waqf. The public is being misinformed by Congress and CPI-M. Every time you accomplish anything well, they object and cause confusion. When PM Modi removed Triple Talaq, these parties followed suit, Saha stated. “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas” is what Prime Minister Narendra Modi consistently strives for, he remarked.

PM Modi’s actions are aimed at the welfare of everyone, according to Chief Minister Saha. The Waqf Board, established in 1954, has huge assets but lacks social works and development. An amendment bill was introduced to improve transparency. In 2013, there were 10,381 pending cases, but since 2024, 5,973 government properties have been declared as Waqf properties. Saha has called for strict action against those using Waqf to create unrest.
