The sixth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly begins

Governor La Ganesan gave an address today to kick off the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly’s (NLA) sixth session. Key policy talks, budgetary allocations, and legislative issues will be the main topics of the session, which is set to run until March 8. The Governor’s speech and obituary references kicked off the first day’s activities at 9:30 am. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was honored by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, while five former members—TA Ngullie, K Zungkun, Bendangangshi Ao, Mhavil Khieya, and Kejong Chang—were honored by Speaker Sharingain Longkumer.

A motion of gratitude for the governor’s speech was made by advisor Imkong L Imchen. Discussions regarding the Governor’s speech and the tabulation of various Annual Administrative and Assembly Committee Reports are scheduled for March 4, per the NLA Secretariat’s schedule. In addition, government bills and regulations will be introduced on the day, and the Supplementary Demand for Grants for 2024–2025 and a review of receipts and expenditure trends will be presented.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who also oversees the Finance position, will deliver the state budget for 2025–2026 on March 6 when the parliament resumes after a recess on March 5. There will thereafter be discussions on pressing public issues and proposed legislation. On March 7, private members’ business and additional state budget discussions will take place. On March 8, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report will be tabulated, the Supplementary Demand for Grants will be voted on, and the Nagaland Appropriation Bills will be passed.
