The situation in Manipur Jiribam is tense, ban has been imposed

According to officials, the situation in Manipur’s Jiribam district remained peaceful but tense Tuesday morning, with policemen patrolling at critical areas, one day after eleven suspected militants were killed in a battle with security forces. While an operation was started to find the missing, the district administration enforced prohibitory orders to prevent any unfortunate incidents in the area. Insurgents in camouflage clothing, armed with advanced weaponry, shot randomly at a police station and a nearby CRPF camp in Jiribam district on Monday, killing eleven suspected militants in a heated battle with security personnel, they claimed.

During the intense firefight at Borobekra, two CRPF members were also hurt; one of them was said to be in severe condition. According to police, armed groups from the two opposing sides exchanged gunfire in other locations throughout the Imphal Valley after this incident, resulting in new reports of violence. The Kuki-Zo Council decided to show their “collective grief and solidarity who were brutally shot dead” by calling for a complete closure throughout the state’s hill regions on Tuesday from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.

In addition to the Borobekra police station and the CRPF camp next to it, the suspected militants set fire to a number of stores and homes in and around the Jakurador Karong market in a series of attacks.Eleven suspected militants were killed in a fierce gunfight that broke out as the security forces replied. According to the authorities, the situation was brought under control after the 40–45 minute gunfight.
