The cost of commercial cylinders increased by Rs 114.5 and domestic LPG by Rs 60

The prices of domestic and commercial LPG cylinders have increased by Rs 60 and Rs 114.5, respectively, with the new rates taking effect on March 7. A 14.2-kg non-subsidized household LPG cylinder in Delhi now costs Rs 913 instead of the previous Rs 853 after the increase. With the exception of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana recipients, the majority of families consume this type of LPG. In light of the ongoing turmoil in West Asia, industry experts blamed the surge on a substantial spike in global energy prices.

Cooking gas prices in India are still relatively lower than in a number of neighboring countries, according to officials, despite the increase. In the last 11 months, LPG prices have undergone two revisions. The most recent rise was a Rs 50 hike in household cylinder costs in April of last year. A household LPG cylinder in Mumbai now costs Rs 912.50 instead of Rs 852.50. The rate has increased from Rs 879 to Rs 930 in Kolkata and from Rs 868.50 to Rs 928.50 in Chennai. Due to variations in local taxes like VAT, LPG costs varies between states.

Over 10 crore families that have benefited from free LPG connections since the program’s inception in 2016 will continue to get a subsidy of Rs 300 every 14.2-kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year as part of the Ujjwala plan. The price of commercial LPG cylinders, commonly used by hotels and restaurants, has also been raised by Rs 114.5 per 19-kg cylinder. A commercial cylinder in Delhi now costs Rs 1,883 after the most recent increase. The price hike follows another review on March 1, when prices were increased by Rs 28. So far this year, commercial LPG rates have increased by Rs 302.50.
