Telecom Regulatory Authority of India holds Guwahati seminar on improving digital connectivity standards in buildings

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) held a seminar on “Rating of Buildings for Digital Connectivity” in Guwahati, aiming to create awareness about the recently issued “Rating of Properties for Digital Connectivity Regulations” on October 25, 2024. The seminar, inaugurated by KS Gopinath Narayan, Principal Secretary of the Department of IT in Assam, included significant figures such as PK Singh from TRAI, officials from the Department of Telecommunications, RERA, and various industry stakeholders including builders and telecom service providers.

The event emphasized the critical role of digital connectivity in contemporary building design, particularly under the influence of artificial intelligence. The seminar was structured into two sessions; the first focused on regulations surrounding Digital Connectivity Rating (DCR), the integration of these regulations into building bye-laws, and the challenges of implementing them. The second session addressed perspectives from telecom service providers and infrastructure providers, featuring presentations from multiple stakeholders including the Council of Architecture and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI).

Throughout the discussions, the participants highlighted the importance of establishing robust frameworks for digital connectivity ratings to enhance telecom services. This initiative reflects TRAI’s commitment to fostering collaboration across government, industry, and academic spheres to adapt to evolving technological needs and maintain high standards in telecommunications within buildings.
