Tea Garden Student Talent Hunt Grand Finale to Be Held in Guwahati on Feb 10

The Grand Finale of the Sur Sangam – Tea Garden Student Talent Hunt, a music talent hunt and mentorship initiative for students from tea garden communities, is set for February 10 at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati. Implemented by The Hans Foundation in partnership with the Assam Government’s Department of Secondary Education, it aims to enhance holistic education and creative empowerment. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu will be the chief guest, with famous singer Suresh Wadkar as Guest of Honour, providing mentorship to the top five winners at his Mumbai academy. The initiative includes 54 Model Schools in the tea garden areas of Sonitpur, Tinsukia, and Dibrugarh, part of The Hans Foundation’s Uttam Xikhya programme, which promotes educational access and quality for tea tribe children, expanding to 101 schools by April. The programme was instigated after a review led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, focusing on co-curricular activities like music education for holistic student development. Intensive music classes for over 14,000 tea tribe students have been conducted, culminating in three audition rounds that narrowed down 16 finalists for the Grand Finale. These finalists are currently preparing under expert mentorship. The top five winners will receive scholarships for education up to the post-graduation level and advanced mentorship at Wadkar’s Ajivasan Music Academy, alongside other awards and recognitions.
