Under the direction of in-charge Deputy Commissioner Sang Khandu, the Tawang Police convened a District-level Narcotics Coordination Committee (NCORD) meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office. In order to reduce drug activity in Tawang, the session’s main goal was to strengthen interagency cooperation. Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy SP) Tasso Kato, Divisional Forest Officer Piyush Gaikwad, and DDSE Tawang Hridar Phuntsok were among the important officials present, along with representatives from the local Bazaar Committee, paramilitary forces, and intelligence services.
In his presentation of current anti-drug trafficking tactics, Dy SP Kato called on Bazaar Secretaries and Gaon Burahs to provide intelligence that could help identify local drug dealers. As a preventative measure, bazaar secretaries suggested performing unexpected inspections at marketplaces. Representatives from the paramilitary and Intelligence Bureau also exchanged suggestions for better coordination. Sang Khandu, who noted the low number of NDPS cases but emphasized proactive measures to prevent escalation, concluded the discussion by highlighting the significance of frequent NCORD sessions to be watchful against narcotics threats. For early intervention, he urged tight collaboration between Bazaar Committees and intelligence services.
