Tata Power’s Haldia Power Project: Operational Excellence

Demonstrating exceptional operational performance, Tata Power’s Haldia Power plant has accomplished an impressive plant load factor (PLF) and auxiliary power consumption (APC) at 120 MW. The plant’s journey towards operational excellence is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Haldia Power Project and key stakeholders, including a notable partnership with Tata Steel. Joint initiatives have optimized process parameters and successfully addressed challenges, such as elevated fuel gas temperatures.

Haldia has also emerged as a pioneer in sustainable practices, achieving the lowest monthly specific water consumption, renewing the Consent to Operate and Hazardous Waste Authorization, adopting innovative best practices, reducing APC, implementing water conservation initiatives, and ensuring corrosion protection. The Haldia team actively participated in a knowledge-sharing initiative in August 2023, visiting Electro Steel Limited to cultivate mutual learning and implement best practices.

Aligned with Tata Power’s vision of “Sustainable is Attainable,” the Haldia Power Project operates as one of the waste heat recovery plants using coke oven gases, significantly curbing greenhouse gas emissions. The plant is the first private power plant in West Bengal to obtain clearance for the open-access sale of power.
