Tata Motors to Supply 5,000 Buses to Multiple State Transport Undertakings

Tata Motors has secured cumulative orders for more than 5,000 buses and bus chassis from multiple State Transport Undertakings (STUs) across India, reinforcing its leadership in the country’s mass mobility segment. The orders were awarded through a competitive e-bidding process under the government procurement system and will be deployed in phases as agreed with the respective transport bodies.

The company received orders from several major transport corporations including Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC), Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC), North Western Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC), Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC), Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC), Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC), Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), Haryana Roadways and Chandigarh Transport Undertaking. Commenting on the development, Anand S, Vice President and Head, Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors Ltd., said the orders reflect strong trust from state transport undertakings. “Our buses are designed to deliver comfort, safety and long-term reliability across varied terrains and duty cycles. With strong product engineering and lifecycle support, we continue to enable STUs to serve millions of passengers every day,” he said.

The orders cover a wide range of passenger mobility solutions including Tata Magna, Tata Cityride, Tata Starbus, Tata Starbus Prime, and LPO 1618, LPO 1622 and LPO 1822 variants configured for intercity, long-haul and intracity operations.

In Kolkata, transport operators and fleet buyers in eastern India are closely watching such large-scale procurements as states accelerate fleet modernisation. Industry observers say growing demand for reliable, fuel-efficient and comfortable buses could influence procurement strategies in the Kolkata region, where improving public transport infrastructure remains a priority.
