Sinakeithel Village Authority has reported an alarming incident of unprovoked firing by Kuki militants and armed Kuki volunteers in Sinakeithei village, located in Ukhrul district, on March 7. The attack occurred around 2:50 PM while local farmers were engaged in their daily agricultural activities, leaving them vulnerable to heavy gunfire from automatic rifles that caused widespread panic and disrupted their work. This incident is characterized as a severe violation of human rights, illustrating a cowardly assault on the peace and economic stability of the community.
The authority noted that this is not an isolated event; similar incidents of intimidation and armed assaults have been increasingly frequent, particularly along the western flanks of the village. These ongoing aggressions have undermined the previously tranquil atmosphere of the region, forcing law-abiding residents into a persistent state of fear and insecurity.
Furthermore, the village authority accused Kuki miscreants of encroaching on land under Sinakeithei’s jurisdiction, which included setting fire to reserved forest areas and even abducting an elderly resident at gunpoint on February 23. The Kuki militants and armed volunteers have reportedly constructed numerous bunkers and outposts along the Lungter mountain range, blatantly violating established Kuki-Tangkhul boundaries. Additionally, the presence of surveillance drones over the village signifies a disturbing disregard for privacy and an intimidating presence aimed at the residents.
In light of these continual threats, the Sinakeithel Village Authority has urged law enforcement and state authorities to act promptly and decisively to prevent further escalation of violence and to restore peace to the area.
