Tangkhul Naga Organization’s Seek Immediate Dismantling of KLA Bunker in Sinakeithel

The Central Working Committee (CWC), Tangkhul Naga Foothills’ Organisation (TNFO), has called for the immediate dismantling of a bunker established by the Kuki Liberation Army (KLA) near the residential area of Sinakeithei Tangkhul village, alleging it threatens the safety and peace of the community. The CWC stated that a road opened in 2019 for humanitarian purposes has devolved into a space of fear due to the violent actions of KLA militants, who are reportedly violating a peace agreement with the Government of India and the Government of Manipur. Since March 15, 2026, there have been unprovoked instances of gunfire that have created an atmosphere of terror, preventing villagers from accessing agricultural land and pursuing their livelihoods, hence leading to a humanitarian crisis.

The Village Authority of Sinakeithei Tangkhul has complained of the lack of action from the 4th Mahar Regiment despite prior notifications about the situation. The CWC, TNFO emphasized that if the authorities do not act swiftly to dismantle the bunker, they will be held responsible for any resulting incidents. The well-being and fundamental rights of civilians must remain protected.

Additionally, the Sinakeithel Village Authority reported a worsening security situation due to the aggressive activities of Kuki militants under the Suspension of Operations (So0) Pact, including the unauthorized construction of bunkers and checkpoints that restrict local movement. Incidents of gunfire have targeted not only the Naga locals but also uninvolved parties, such as Nepali cow-herders, heightening fears within the community. Recent events, particularly on March 12 and March 15, highlighted the shocking intensity of the situation, with militants firing weapons near residential areas and disrupting church services. Furthermore, local security forces conducted drone surveillance that found no bunkers in the areas locals urged them to check, indicating a communication breakdown in addressing the security concerns.
