Tabu recently shared a funny anecdote about how Priyadarshan prepared her for the role of Gehna Thakur in Virasat.
For actress Tabu, director Priyadarshan’s action drama Virasat became a significant contribution to her career, with her performance earning her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics). Virasat, written by Kamal Haasan and directed by Malayalam filmmaker Bharath, is a remake of the Tamil film Thevar Magan, also starring Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Pooja Batra and Milind Gunaji in lead roles.Recently, Tabu shared a funny anecdote from her Heritage days about how Priyadarshan prepared her for the role of Gehana Thakur.
“Priyan (Priyadarshan) wanted my hair to be oily and to look like a villager. So, the hair stylist told me to take a little bit of gel and apply it to make it look oily. When I went to the set he said, ‘I asked you to apply oil.’ I said, ‘Yes, a little bit.’ It is shining well. So he let it go and then came back with a bottle of coconut oil and poured all the oil on my head.’That’s what I mean by oiling your hair,’ he said. But then it was very effortless for me. I didn’t have to do any hairstyle. I used to be ready in five minutes. Long hair, oil it, braid it and go to the set,” she recalled during a conversation with Zoom.
Apart from Virasat, Tabu worked with Priyadarshan in monumental films such as the epic period drama Kalapani (1996), the comedy Hera Pheri (2000), and the mystery thriller Snegithiye (2000).
One of the most celebrated female actors of Indian cinema and a two-time National Award winner, Tabu is all set to return to the big screen for the second time this year. After the massive success of her heist comedy Crew earlier this year, she will next be seen in the romantic thriller ‘Auron Mein Kahaan Dum Tha’, directed by Neeraj Pandey and starring Ajay Devgan in the lead role. This film is going to be released on 5th July.
