Starbucks CEO Laxman Narasimhan, who was on a recent visit to India, announced some big plans for the brand in the country. Narasimhan announced an ambition to operate 1,000 stores in India by 2028 – or opening a new store every three days.
“We will bring the signature Starbucks experience to more customers and communities, including drive-through and airport stores, and we will double our partner base,” he said in a statement on social media.
Starbucks currently operates over 390 stores across 54 cities in India in a 50:50 partnership with Tata Consumer Products since 2012.
He also announced the opening of another Starbucks Reserve store in Mumbai. “This is a testament to our long-term commitment to enhance the coffee experience in India,” he said.
Narasimhan said the developments are part of the company’s triple-shot reinvention strategy announced early last year. The strategy focuses on three priorities: enhancing the Starbucks brand; strengthening the company’s digital capabilities; And becoming truly global. It has announced an ambition to expand its global reach and accelerate expansion to 55,000 stores worldwide by 2030.
The brand plans to expand vocational skills training to underserved young women seeking careers in the retail and food and beverage industries in India. They will expand on-the-job learning options for program participants at stores in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad and Mumbai.
