Sony LIV has strengthened its original content pipeline with the unveiling of Jazz City at a high-profile press meet in Kolkata. The period drama is scheduled to stream from March 19, 2026, as the platform continues to invest in differentiated, premium storytelling. Set in 1971 Kolkata, Jazz City is a fictional narrative blending soulful jazz music with layered human conflict. The series revolves around a dimly lit jazz club that becomes a silent witness to history, where coded conversations echo through melodies and the fight for identity unfolds against the city’s old-world charm.
Created, written and directed by Soumik Sen, the project is produced by Studio 9 and StudioNext. Sen described the series as a deeply human story born from a transformative era, calling it his homage to the time. Producer Arpita Chatterjee said the show reflects strong collaborative execution, with writing, performances and technical departments contributing with passion and integrity alongside Sony LIV.
The cast includes Arifin Shuvoo, Sauraseni Maitra, Shantanu Ghatak, Aniruddha Gupta, Sayandeep Sen, Shreya Bhattacharya, Shataf Figar, Alexandra Taylor and Amit Saha. With its music-driven period setting and ensemble cast, Jazz City is positioned to attract audiences seeking niche, high-quality regional narratives in the competitive OTT market.
