Siliguri, 06 August (Retd.). Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) has once again started a campaign against encroachment. On Monday, corporation workers demolished unauthorized construction from Teenbatti Mod to Jalapai Mod, due to which businessmen gathered to protest against the campaign.
According to reports, when the expedition reached Jalpai Mor area, it faced huge hurdles as people started protesting strongly and stopped the expedition midway. However, later after the intervention of police-administration, the corporation resumed the demolition campaign. Meanwhile, anger was seen among the traders regarding the campaign and it was said that the corporation has gone ahead with the campaign without any prior information.
A tea seller expressed his frustration, accusing the TMC party of misbehavior due to the BJP’s recent electoral success in the area. Similarly, a bag shop owner highlighted the impact on his livelihood, which is essential to support his wife suffering from kidney disease. Additionally, a fast-food shop owner criticized the municipal corporation for demolishing his establishment without adequate warning.
He accused the Municipal Corporation officials of unfair treatment and expressed his dissatisfaction.
