Siliguri’s drinking water supply will be turned off for two days

‘Water crisis’ again in Siliguri. On November 22 and 23, Friday and Saturday, the supply of drinking water to every house will be stopped in the municipality area. Six months ago, the residents of Siliguri had to ‘cry’ over the water shortage as the supply of drinking water was stopped for four days. Even though there were alternative arrangements, most of them could not quench their thirst! Even this time, the residents of the municipality feel that they will have to face the same problem even if there were alternative arrangements. According to the municipality sources, the drinking water service of the municipality is being stopped for two days for the renovation of the intake well and the work of the alternative intake well.

Since there was only one intake well for so long, the drinking water service used to be disrupted when silt accumulated in it. To deal with that situation, the municipality has built a new intake well in Fulbari adjacent to Siliguri at a cost of 6.9 million taka. That intake well was inaugurated recently during a visit to the hills. The work of connecting it will begin. However, the municipality has taken alternative measures to deliver drinking water to every house. They said that water will be supplied to the urban areas in 26 water tanks and 35 PVC tanks. About three lakh water pouches have also been arranged. The Public Health Technical Department has been asked for help. Five 5,000 liter tanks will also be taken from them.
