Siliguri, September 10: The cyber crime team of Siliguri Metropolitan Police has achieved a significant success by successfully recovering ₹25 lakh fraudulently obtained from a retired employee. The special thing is that this money has been returned to its real owner, a retired government employee of Haiderpara.
According to the report, on August 19, the fraud victim received a call on WhatsApp from an unknown number. The caller introduced himself as an officer of the Mumbai Crime Branch and threatened to arrest the victim in a drug-related case. The caller then demanded Rs 25 lakh to settle the matter.
As a result, the retired employee fell prey to fraud and transferred Rs 25 lakh to the bank account mentioned by the fraudster. Later when he contacted his bank, he came to know that he had been cheated. After this, he lodged a written complaint at the cyber police station.
Based on the complaint, the Siliguri Cyber Crime Team investigated and successfully recovered the defrauded amount within a month. The recovered amount was immediately returned to the retired employee. The victim expressed his gratitude to the Cyber Crime Team for their prompt action and successful recovery of his money.
