Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma inaugurated the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in New Shillong Township on November 20, heralding a new era of technologically driven urban governance. Located in Umsawli, the state-of-the-art ICCC will function as the digital backbone for managing Shillong’s urban infrastructure, integrating disaster management, real-time surveillance, and data analytics to optimize city operations.The facility is equipped with advanced capabilities, including video analytics, intelligent traffic systems, and waste management monitoring.
A network of 96 surveillance points across Shillong will bolster security and efficiency in critical sectors such as traffic flow, water distribution, and solid waste management.“The ICCC represents our commitment to leveraging technology for better governance and citizen welfare. It will enable us to respond proactively to emergencies and improve urban services,” said Chief Minister Sangma.With 20 dedicated workstations and a 30-person operational capacity, the centre facilitates seamless inter-departmental coordination, promoting data-driven decision-making and strategic planning.
Future plans include extending this technological framework to Tura and Jowai, aligning with Meghalaya’s vision to become a regional hub for data-driven urban management. This initiative marks a transformative step in reshaping Shillong’s urban landscape, setting a benchmark for smart city projects in the region.
