Security Tightened as Forces Block JFD March to Assembly

A group of volunteers from the Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD) attempted to stage a protest at the Manipur Legislative Assembly Complex but were intercepted by security personnel at Thangmeiband, Imphal. The volunteers carried placards opposing the proposed census exercise ahead of the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Security forces prevented their advance to the legislative premises to maintain order during the assembly session, resulting in a peaceful standoff as they monitored the gathering. The JFD has called for a postponement of the census until illegal immigrants are identified, using 1951 as the cut-off year for citizenship verification. They previously submitted a memorandum to the Union Home Minister on December 15, 2025, requesting a delay in the census in Manipur until the issue of illegal immigration is addressed and the ongoing conflict in the state is resolved.
